Orchestrate Platforms and Applications (OPA) on AWS brings AWS cloud closer to your developers. The platform allows enterprise to build environments and applications on AWS without requiring to upskill on cloud expertise. OPA on AWS provides a reference implementation for an enterprise grade fully integrated platform. Improving the developer work with a secure and scalable experience for non-cloud developers.

Based on Backstage which is an open-source platform enabling a well built and well-designed user interface for OPA on AWS. The Backstage platform itself has been adopted by over 900 companies as their primary developer portal in the past 3 years and has over 100 plugins available for its end users. OPA on AWS takes Backstage to the next level by seamlessly integrating it with AWS and packaging it together for enterprise use.


About GitOps Platform Engineering Team​

GitOps Platform engineering team is focused on unblocking customers and accelerate their journey to the cloud. While working with different customers in the financial services industry, we kept seeing the same challenges being surfaced about landing zones, lack of cloud skills, and difficulties building an internal developer platforms. Many of our customers have been trying to build internal solutions, or found themselves paying hefty fees for external services. Along with our customers, we’ve embarked on this journey of simplifying their internal AWS experience. Thus came to be GitOps Platform on AWS.

Our goal is to provide a simple, safe, easy-to-use solution, that reduces the overhead from the DevOps team and allows developers to be more productive while still granting the flexibility and security guardrails that every enterprise needs. With OPA on AWS you can move fast, safe, and at scale.

Workshop

We can offer customers a hands-on workshop to get familiar with the OPA on AWS platform.

Target Audience​

The workshop targets two key roles:

  • Application Developers
  • Platform / DevOps Engineers

Logistics​

  • Timing - about 1 hour.
  • A room that supports the number of attendees - each will log-in to their own account/platform.
  • Optional: Whiteboard to illustrate architecture and facilitate question and answer sessions.

Workshop Offering​

  • Hands-on experience with OPA on AWS
  • Conduct the workshop across multiple teams up to 30+ attendees at a time
  • Pre-configured platform environment so you can experience with OPA on AWS - with no prior cloud experience needed
  • Bootstrap cloud development and test your application with your own code

Workshop Content​

The workshop is an opportunity to learn about OPA on AWS and some of it’s major capabilities. Participants of this workshop will assume the role of two personas (Platform Engineer and Application Developer) to deploy a runtime environment and application using the OPA on AWS platform. Specifically participants will walk through the following steps:

  • Platform Engineers

    1. Creating Environments and environment providers
    2. Deploying an environment provider
    3. Deploying an environment

  • Application Developers

    1. Deploying an application to an environment that has already been created
    2. Adding environment variables via the UI
    3. Interacting with code repository (pushing and pulling code changes and executing pipelines)
    4. Interacting with environment via the UI (starting/stopping task, View logs, related infrastructure etc)
    5. Optional: Deploy an application to another environment (i.e. dev → prod)
    6. Optional: Bind application to an existing resource (i.e. database)
